Noel's Beachmere & Sarina
Hello, welcome to the webpage I have created of my homes. I am now living in my Beachmere home and have retired from my position with Telstra in Sarina. The Sarina home was moved from 15 Heron Street Sarina; just some 400 metres away, to its current location in September 2004. It has been a steady but concerted effort to get to this completed and very elegant stage. The Removalists sited the home on 38 3 M. high stumps and the rest was up to me. My electrician friend peter Fursman wired all lights and outlets on the home and a large 3 phase supply was connected. Graham "Bomber" Tighe carried out all the plumbing and drainage work. Occupancy in early November 2004 was achieved. The downstairs area was concreted to Council specification with a 300mm edge reinforced pad. Walls were erected to give privacy and security for downstairs. The concretors were engaged for the pour; as was a concrete pump. That was where the contractors ended their participation. The next 1200+ hours were done by myself. The stairways were the major jobs. The best hardwoods and fastenings were used and the design of the complex stairways were mine. The regulations carefully complied with at every turn. The downstairs area was completely stud walled around the perimeter of the pad and fibrous cement sheet clad. Windows that matched the upstairs style and window awnings that are identical to the original ones on the upper floor were created and fitted. The templates for the awnings are retained for the extra 2 windows that will be fitted by future owners as they are required. I have anticipated that requirement and it will be appreciated. All the mini-orb roofing and gable roll edges of existing awnings has been replaced as well and of course all awnings are a perfect match. The old bathroom that was an antique from the 40's was completely sripped prior to being moved and a modern and effective bathroom was created when it arrived at 5 William. The large spa bath is also the shower base and the strategic locations of the three; yes 3, shower heads ensures that negiible spray reaches the light beige tile floor. Multiple lighting, imaginative use and disguise of the ancient storeage area and large towl rails are all features. The large kitchen has benefits of views to the north over the top of adjacent homes. Homebush road area to the north is the view on the horizon. The views from all the front rooms and new front deck extend over the top of Sarina town to the coastal fringe at Armstrongs and Freshwater Beachs. The 10 foot ceilings inside and all the walls received the paint treatment and appropriate light shades were obtained. The door handle of the era were not as easily sourced, but 3 main doors were fitted. Deadlocks on all the doors were fitted. The downstairs area was completely secured when the large 2.7M tall access roller door was installed. The laundry access and front downstairs verandah doors were keyed and locked. The kitchen was maintained in its era style and benches and splashbacks were created. Extra power points appeared as did the range hood with internal flourescent lighting and external venting. The yard was not forgotten with new rear and side fencing. The soil surface in the yard was not good in the wet and 60 tonnes of purple crusher dust was laid in generous proportions wherever a vehicle wheel or foot was likely to be! The result is a wonderful yard surface for absolutely any vehicle weight; my container truck did not even leave a tyre mark! The couch grass has grown through this surface and it looks great. I am no green fingers, but several kilos of grass and lawn seed and many kilos of fertiliser together with the rains of the last 12 months have grassed the yard magnificently. The fertiliser has given the magnificent mango at the rear fence and its mate the 10 M high macadamia tree a new lease of productive life! The foxtail palms and many other shubs, grevillias and the like are all flourishing. The front yard was completely spread with good topsoil and has been recently topdressed. The lawn grasses are well established. There are even a few flowers! The final touch was the beautiful ceramic No. 5 sign I bought in Spain last Xmas was fitted to the front stair deck facing the street! Due to circumstances outside of my control, I am no longer able to make Sarina my home base and my baby is now offered to new carers. It is now going to be their responsibilty to make the decisions that I had been deferring. Do I repolish all the hardwood floors ar do I carpet again!!! Email:
